Golden Valley:  3.5kms of rocky terrain and trees, includes old mine tunnel from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. When you    reach the plateau you’ll experience the breathtaking view of the meandering river, through “koppies” and valleys.

White Stinkwood:  4 kms. A forest of White Stinkwood (celtis African) tress

Circular Route 11kms.  From reception, up the valley, past Sheba’s Bath and up to Eagle’s Eye and back.

Bobbejaanskrans”:  5 kms and is for the more adventures hiker with Devil’s Chimney and a chain ladder that goes up a cliff – should only be undertaken with a guide.

On your way you will pass the old farmhouse where Christiaan de Wet (the” Boerepimpernel”) hid from the English,  the milkstables built by Italian prisoners of war (now serving as group accommodation), mineshafts where golddiggers sweat and dreamt of riches, “butterfly paradise” where you may find an abundance of different butterflies doing “mudding” in the stream, gigantic trees in the “Red Donga” and the Rock shelter and stone “kraal” structures where earlier people lived.

Mountain biking:
All our hiking trails are also suitable for mountain biking, exept Bobbejaankrans. Our terrain is also suitable for night races and also exploration cruises with the aim on identifying different tree, plant, bird and butterfly species rather than racing.

Archery:
This is an  ideal venue for 3d shooting tournaments as there is upshooting, downshooting and  over gorge shooting . The dense bush as well as open plains gives great variation. Recurve bow shooting is also available.

Abseiling:
We have a 10m  abseil tower which can double act for wallclimbing. It is always a thrill watching overcome their fear of heights.  Trained guides also fascilitate rockclimbing and abseiling at Bobbejaankrans.

Fishing:
The first documented catch of a small mouth yellowfish was done during December 1979 in the rapids of the Vaalriver on our farm, Buffelskloof.  It is one of a very few stretches of “virgin water”  flyfishing-  catch and release only. Usage is limited to max. 10 persons at a  time. Access is strictly on foot, ( a 3km hike), as no vehicles is allowed to keep the area unspoilt.

A “Swan Lake” is also available near reception for especially the young ones who want to experience  the thrill of feeding the swans. Small ‘Swan food parcels” is available at reception.

Bass and flyfishing rods are available for hire as well as a selection of flies.

Birding, butterflywatching and photography:
With more than 400 species of birds, this is a preferred destination for many a birder. The dome is renowned for the rich variety of butterflies, as is our own “butterfly paradise” at a natural stream where one is sometimes surrounded by a zillion different colours and shapes. Photography teachers sometimes bring their students here as it is the perfect place for a huge variety of different types and conditions of photography.

Stargazing
The Dome is loved by stargazing enthusiasts as the mountain rims reduce light pollution for clearer viewing. An entry level telescope is available to borrow.

The “Nut Tractor”

We’ve  restored a  specially made  wagon, pulled by a tractor,  to it’s former glory to take you on a “going slowly” journey through our game camp to the pecan nut plantation ending with a sherry sundowner at the river.  We also take our guests on game drives via this route.

Low rope/ Literia / obstacle  course:
Trained facilitators will help your company, school or church group to function more cohesively when applying the principles taught in this fun and adventurous style
.

In conjunction with other tour operators we also do the following activities:
Tubing
Canoeing
4x4 trail Rides
Guide tours of the Dome
River Rafting
